Khalil E. Hachem, editor and publisher of Yamichigan.com, one of the fastest growing digital business magazine in the Middle Eastern-American communities in Michigan. Khalil brings more than 18 years of journalistic experience, including working as a government reporter for the St. Petersburg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times) in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Beaumont Enterprise in Beaumont, Texas, and the former Ann Arbor News, in Ann Arbor Michigan that closed in 2009.Khalil received various awards and recognitions for his in-depth reporting on local, national and international news.

Khalil is also a diversity trainer, establishing programs to mitigate cultural differences between the Middle Eastern communities and the community at large, including training for law enforcement, healthcare, businesses and nonprofit organizations. Khalil has a bachelor degree in Political Science, political theory, from the University of South Florida, with studies in English literature, creative writing, journalism, world geography and American Civicl War and reconstruction.

He has a masters degree in diplomacy and conflict resolution from Norwich University, with studies in Islamic rights and the U.S. Constitutions.

Khalil is a sought after speaker, presenter, MC and commentator, with presentations about Islam and the west and American foreign policy. He has appeared on numerous radio and television shows nationally and internationally.

He has authored more than 3,000 news articles and commentaries and is currently working on a novel that is set in the Middle East and a book on the positive outlook of true Islam.

Bio: Dr. Sahar Khamis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is an expert on Arab and Muslim media, and the former Head of the Mass Communication and Information Science Department in Qatar University.

Dr. Khamis holds a Ph.D. in Mass Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Manchester in England. She is a former Mellon Islamic Studies Initiative Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago. She is the co-author of the books: “Islam Dot Com: Contemporary Islamic Discourses in Cyberspace” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009) and “Egyptian Revolution 2.0: Political Blogging, Civic Engagement and Citizen Journalism” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). Additionally, she authored and co-authored numerous book chapters, journal articles and conference papers, regionally and internationally, in both English and Arabic.

She is the recipient of a number of prestigious academic and professional awards, as well as a member of the editorial boards of several journals in the field of communication, in general, and the field of Arab and Muslim media, in particular. Dr. Khamis is a media commentator and analyst, a public speaker, a human rights commissioner in the Human Rights Commission in Montgomery County, Maryland, and a radio host, who presents a monthly radio show on “U.S. Arab Radio” (the first Arab-American radio station broadcasting in the U.S. and Canada).

Delinda Curtiss Hanley

Delinda Curtiss Hanley is news editor and executive director of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, a 76-page nearly monthly magazine with the largest circulation of any Middle East related publication in North America. The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, features insightful analysis of the political, economic, and historical realities of the U.S.-Middle East relationship. Each colorful issue is packed with special reports on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the war in Iraq, current Middle East issues and grassroots activism in the U.S. and abroad. The magazine is important to every Muslim- and Arab-American organization because it is the only publication that reports on every group’s symposiums, lectures, dialogues and activities. The magazine also focuses on U.S. lobbying groups involved in crafting U.S. policy.

Delinda Hanley spent most of her childhood in the Middle East accompanying her foreign service officer father Richard Curtiss, co-founder of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. After attending the American University in Washington, DC, and American University of Beirut, she earned a degree in education from the University of Maryland. She joined the Peace Corps and taught English in the Sultanate of Oman. She stayed for three additional years to work in the Musandam Province of Oman as a consultant for a development project. After several years of teaching in Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom, she returned the United States in 1988 to work as an editor and picture researcher for a publisher of historical magazines. In 1996 she came to work for the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, and is now the executive director and news editor. She writes extensively for the magazine on an array of topics and her stories have also been published in the Arab News, Saudi ARAMCO World, the Minaret, Islamic Horizons and other U.S. magazines, including the Jewish Spectator. She has written extensively on Palestine Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Libya, the emergence of the Muslim voice in Arab politics, and fairness in the mainstream American media. Ms. Hanley has given talks at various conferences and demonstrations across the United States and Canada

Ray Hanania, Board member, NAAJA Founder

Ray Hanania is an award winning political columnist, author and standup comedian. He covered Chicago Politics and Chicago City Hall from 1976 through 1992. Hanania began writing in 1975 when he published The Middle Eastern Voice newspaper in Chicago (1975-1977). He later published “The National Arab American Times” newspaper which was distributed through 12,500 Middle East food stores in 48 American States (2004-2007).

Hanania writes weekly columns on Middle East and American Arab issues for the Arab News in Saudi Arabia at www.ArabNews.com, and for TheArabDailyNews.com, and TheDailyHookah.com. Palestinian, American Arab and Christian, Hanania’s parents originate from Jerusalem and Bethlehem. He is a weekly columnist with the Southwest News Newspaper Group of 8 newspapers covering Chicagoland, Illinois and the Midwest.

Hanania is the recipient of four (4) Chicago Headline Club “Peter Lisagor Awards” for Column writing. In November 2006, he was named “Best Ethnic American Columnist” by the New American Media;In 2009, he received the prestigious Sigma Delta Chi Award for Writing from the Society of Professional Journalists. He is the recipient of the MT Mehdi Courage in Journalism Award. Hanania has also received two (2) Chicago Stick-o-Type awards from the Chicago Newspaper Guild, and in 1990 was nominated by the Chicago Sun-Times for a Pulitzer Prize for his four-part series on the Palestinian Intifada.
